Ben de la Cour - "Anybody Like You" | Concerts from Blue Rock LIVE

“Ben de la Cour’s songs are brimming with urgent authenticity. There is thematic hardness and vulnerability throughout, but what distinguishes him from lesser guitar-and-anguished-vocals hacks is the raw humanity of his delivery and the potency of his way with words.”

– No Depression

Courtyard Concert Series | Chris Blevins - "Better Than Alone"

Chris Blevins work is a wicked blend of Southern rock & country crooning, seasoned with a shuffle and maybe even a hint of small town gospel, this talented Okie artist writes with a folk singer’s clear-eyed view of the world around him with wry political commentary, heartbreaking tales of love, and a romantic’s sense of longing and regret.  Excerpt from Horton Records

About Scott-  An engaging voice, groove-laden melodies, and smart musicianship become the vehicle for delivering these character-driven songs about regular people, facing the everyday challenges of life with uncommon grace.

FROM THE HOST:  I have had the pleasure of hosting Mark Stuart and his wife Stacey Earle numerous times over the year.  Mark is touring solo this time around and It has been awhile since he graced us with his extraordinary skills.
Mark has that rare gift of being an excellent singer/songwriter and he is a musician's musician.  He will wow you with his acoustic guitar playing and his storytelling.  He is a true performer and there's not a dishonest note to be found, as he gives his all.

Mark Stuart-  Instrumental

If you admire great acoustic guitar playing that spans, country, folk, rock, and blues and you love great songs and story-telling, and stage presence, then you won't want to miss this very intimate performance.  Mark and his wife Stacey Earle came and performed for us during the big ice storm in Tulsa, when we were without electricity or heat. Folks came out and it was one of our most memorable shows.

Mark Stuart tours full-time as a musical artist, bringing his years of experience to the stage.

Onstage, his focus is on the songs he has penned and recorded,
delivered with a soulful singing voice and highly memorable guitar playing.

After many years on the Americana/Folk circuit, Stuart has cultivated a very rounded performance. His show consists of storytelling, flashy guitar "chops", and songs that seem to draw from his rock, blues, country, and folk music roots. Mostly, this artist from Tennessee has toured solo or in a notable duo with his wife ("Stacey Earle & Mark Stuart"). There were stints along the way as a sideman, though (Steve Forbert, Freddy Fender, Steve
Earle, Joan Baez). If placed on the bill with a contemporary artist he is usually asked to play guitar on their portion of the show. Just ask Jason Ringenberg, Ray Wylie Hubbard, or Jimmy LaFave.

One can find Mark Stuart on any given night in a small theater,
coffeehouse, house concert, festival stage, club, church auditorium, etc. giving it his all. Aside from that, he could be instructing at a guitar clinic, songwriting workshop, or playing on someone's recording session. As co-owner of Gearle Records he has produced or co-produced many albums. Stuart's career has repeatedly taken him to all of the USA, Canada, Europe, and the United Kingdom, and, has spanned several decades.

I have returned from my traveling around Europe and excited to be back in the saddle sharing music with all of you.
Both of our guest singer/songwriters are award winning artists.  Heather's 2011 release Lifeboats for Atlantis brought her to national attention, hitting #3 on the FOLK-DJ charts. In addition to being a 2015 New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival, Styka received first place in the Big Top Chautauqua Songwriting Competition (2009) and second place in the Great Lakes Songwriting Contest (2012).
Carter
was named a Top 12 Finalist in the 2012 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest and performed at Lincoln Center in New York. This year, she won first place in the general category of the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at Merlefest in Wilkesboro, N.C. – with her song “Wild Bird”, which was additionally released by Pinecastle Records.
She also won fourth place in the Colorado-based Telluride Troubadour Contest at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and was a Top 10 Finalist in the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival’s Songwriters Showcase in Lyons, Colo.  Also, Carter is a native Oklahoman.
I might add, I won first place in the Ozark Mountain Songwriting Contest and 3rd place in the International Billboard Songwriting Contest.  I feel honored to be playing with these two wonderful artists and looking forward to seeing all of you.

Scott Aycock "Old Roses In A Vase"

About:

“Intricate finger picking, perfect melodies, and heartbreakingly beautiful lyrics… The Bittersweet Tapes is a collection of 12 songs recorded on an old four track recorder, a method that allows her to convey a more raw and intimate feeling than previous releases… In this raw and intimate portrait of life, disguised as a collection of songs, Heather Styka has truly created a masterpiece… A writer with this kind of vision and ability doesn’t come along very often and it’s an honor to have her among us for this brief and fleeting moment in time.”
- Independent Melody, Chris Darby

Carter Sampson's fourth full-length album Wilder Side is a soulful and soft country masterpiece.  The Oklahoma City singer-songwriter has a penchant for penning songs that don't need bluster or bombast to tell a powerful story.  Focusing on themes of heartbreak and the open road, Wilder Side is the kind of pure country record that has far more in common with classic releases from the likes of Patsy Cline and Emmylou Harris than it does with anything one will find on country radio.  Fellow Oklahoma artists Ali Harter and John Moreland made appearances on the record lending their distinctive voices, perfectly complementing Sampson's beautifully sorrowful vocals.  And that more than anything is what drives this record, Sampson's breathtaking voice.  This record is haunting and mesmerizing and simply beautiful.

Day Two of Scott's Great Adventure

So I'm leaving for London Tuesday at 9:55 PM, but until I leave I'm staying with friends Paully Carroll and Priss Yotter in Orlando, Florida.  They are two of three identical triplets.
This morning I'm having a cup of coffee and a bowl of flax cereal and looking out the window at the backyard of Priss's home.
Have you ever eaten flax cereal? Well, if you have not you might just try cutting up some cardboard in milk.  After two bites I thought this needs something so I scoured the refrigerator and found a bag of organic pumpkin seeds and threw a handful in the cereal. That did add a little crunch, But now I just had crunchy cardboard. So then I looked up in the cabinet and found some cashew nuts and added them. Salt free, I might add. Now we're talking,  because I like cashew nuts,  so I added some more and ate a couple of bites and decided to add some more. Pretty soon the cashew nuts outnumbered the flax flakes, but it needed something sweet,  so I added half a banana and that seemed to do the trick, giving me the right combination of health and flavor.
Then while finishing my coffee I watched two lizards through the window sneaking up on a horsefly and finally attacking it. I thought for sure the horsefly was a goner,  but he held his own and got away.
I then settled in to read a book that my wife Marge recommended, the Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter. I can't believe I've never read this book. What a wonderful read.
Pauly came over around noon and we headed to Cape Canaveral to hang out on the beach and do some boogie board.   I was careful to lather myself with  enough suntan lotion to keep a vampire alive in the sun. However I discovered much too late that I forgot to put lotion on the top of my feet.  My feet are now as red as a baboons butt and almost as painful to look at.  The only thing I had to put on them was apple cider vinegar. I'm assuming vinegar is a cure for anything at least that's what my grandfather believed, so why not give it a try.
Tomorrow they are taking me to some alligator park where they have told me be prepared to step over some alligators. I think I will wear long pants.  I don't have any boots. Rick Steves told me to just bring comfortable walking shoes and sandals. Damn him!
