VDub Sessions // Fiawna Forte plays "Fool Again" (Episode 134)
Fiawna Forté (Foe-Fum Records/Tulsa, OK) has been immersed in all aspects of songwriting, recording and performing throughout her entire life. Her debut release, "Transitus", put her name on Oklahoma's map. Fiawna's most current release, "Deciduous", has been described as "pure booty-shaking, roof-raising rock & roll" -(Jerry Wofford/Tulsa World), while merely listening to Forté has been compared to "being stuck in a smoky time warp where Wanda Jackson, Elvis, Roy Orbison and The White Stripes all roll around on a sawdust floor damp with sweat and beer" -("Women Who Rock" issue/Currentland).
It should be noted that Forté is well suited to both the indie and the more traditional flavors of rock. Her distinctive voice—as comfortable in an emotive whisper or a melodic warble as in a fierce, growling yawp—defies easy genre classifications; she evokes feelings, not labels. Listen to the 11 tracks on “Deciduous” and I guarantee you’ll be knocked flat at least once per song by her fiery, raw vocal power." -Matt Cauthron / The Tulsa Voice
The Motel Sessions: Jacob Tovar- Three Good Reasons
A man from a different time, a different era. With a gentleman’s handshake, booming voice, contagious smile, and quick wit, this Tulsa, OK performer effortlessly connects with all through his sincere Roots Country songs: a weaving of Americana, folk, and old school country styles. Jacob grew up in Western Oklahoma working with his family's business and appreciating many walks of life through the lens of a country lad. He has performed shows with the likes of: Chris Stapleton, Junior Brown, Sturgill Simpson, Wayne the Train Hancock, and many other Tulsa icons and legends! You can catch him almost any night of the week playing or taking in live music in the Tulsa area, continually connecting with the close-knit scene there.
Beau Roberson is front man in a band called Pilbrim. Pilgrim is a powerful propulsive, soulful band with a groove, and as Matt Cauthron of The Tulsa Voice wrote, " 'groove' is the key word. It encapsulates this band, sets it apart from your ordinary alt-country-folk-rock outfit. With them, it’s something like magic."
"Beau Roberson is a skilled songwriter and a one-of-a-kind vocalist. His lyrics are gritty and countrified, delicate and introspective. His rockers will make you stomp your feet, and his ballads will stir your soul. When he suddenly shifts from a dulcet baritone to a snarling roar, you will know his power.
The songs themselves, if stripped away of everything but Roberson’s voice and his acoustic guitar, would stand on their own. " Matt Cauthron, The Tulsa Voice
